Before he joined the Roswell Park Care Network at Samaritan Hospital in Watertown, NY, Maksim Liaukovich, MD, a hematologic oncologist, got his start as a physician in Belarus and Canada, but he comes from a long line of physicians.
“Both my parents are doctors. My aunts and one uncle are physicians,” he says. “I saw how they can help patients and how passionate they are, and that influenced me.”
Dr. Liaukovich says he understands the importance of providing high-quality care and access to the clinical trials and treatments offered through the Roswell Park Care Network because, growing up in a small village, he knows firsthand how difficult it can be to receive lifesaving care quickly.
“It’s very important to be in the community. I want to help patients and for them to have access to all the achievements in the field. I want them to be able to get CAR T-cell therapy or to get a bone marrow transplant,” as patients who are treated at a Roswell Park Care Network facility like Samaritan can, he says. “It’s important to be affiliated with a larger institution.”
