Andrew Ray, PT, PhD
Associate Professor of Oncology, Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center
Dr. Ray’s work focuses on respiratory muscle dysfunction and cancer treatment-induced symptomology (dyspnea) and a reduced exercise capacity. More specifically, he incorporates respiratory muscle training to improve postoperative outcomes in patients electing curative intent resection for lung cancer. This project has significant clinical and quality of life implications. By improving “respiratory reserve” before treatment, Dr. Ray can effectively reduce the postoperative length of stay and complications such as pneumonia. With a home-based approach, Dr. Ray’s work has the potential to reach a large number of patients that may otherwise not receive rehabilitation services.
