Innovative Roswell Park Radiation Therapy Protocol in Lung Cancer to Be Highlighted at ASTRO Annual Meeting


Dr. Mark Farrugia to present research cited among most clinically relevant studies at international conference

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Experts from Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center will share the findings of a novel approach using radiation therapy to treat lung cancer at the American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) Annual Meeting Sept. 27-Oct. 1, 2025, in San Francisco. First author Mark Farrugia, MD, PhD, Clinical Assistant Professor of Oncology in Roswell Park’s Department of Radiation Medicine, will present an oral abstract of a study evaluating a new approach to delivering radiation therapy post-surgery in patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). The study will also be included in an ASTRO Science Highlights Session featuring top-rated abstracts.

Led by senior author Anurag Singh, MD, Professor of Oncology and Director of Radiation Research at Roswell Park, the study reports the findings of a single-arm, prospective clinical trial at Roswell Park.

Dheerendra Prasad, MD, MCh, FACRO, Professor of Radiation Medicine, Chief of Gamma Knife Radiosurgery and Medical Director of the Department of Radiation Medicine at Roswell Park, is senior author of the study.
  • Singh is senior author on “Association of Systemic Inflammation Response Index with Outcomes among Patients with Head and Neck Cancer Receiving Definitive Chemoradiation” (Abstract 2704), to be presented 10:45 a.m.-noon PT, in Hall F.
